Ethnic clash erupts in Ibadan following the death of tricycle mechanic
The Ojoo community in ibadan faces violent clash between Yoruba traders and Hausa residents in the area earlier today.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the attackers, described as Hausa scrap collectors, reportedly pulled a gun from a sack of collected scrap before chasing a group of people and fatally stabbing the victim. These accounts have not been independently verified.
Witnesses further alleged that many Northerners in the area have gone into hiding as angry Yoruba youths demand that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
The incident reportedly triggered violence this morning, with clashes said to have broken out between some Yoruba and Hausa groups in the area. Officials of the Oyo State joint security outfit, Operation Burst, have reportedly been deployed to Ojoo to restore calm and maintain order.
Residents are urged to remain calm and allow security agencies to investigate and apprehend those responsible.
